Experience monument preservation: traveling exhibition in the Charlottenburg town hall!

An innovative traveling exhibition entitled “Monument Preservation. More Value Than You Think” will take place in the heart of Berlin from February 3rd to 26th, 2026. The organizer, that Berlin State Monuments Office, invites anyone interested to the Charlottenburg Town Hall Gallery to discover the added value of listed buildings, objects and gardens for urban society.

The exhibition, which was presented for the first time in September 2025 at the “Open Monument Day” at the ICC Berlin, is intended to interactively invite visitors to contribute their own thoughts on monument preservation. A special highlight is the discussion on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 6 p.m. Under the title “Monument sites – Added value in everyday life,” it will take place in the Minna Cauer Hall of the Charlottenburg town hall.

Discussion group and discussants

The discussion will be led by Dr. Christoph Rauhut, the state curator and director of the Berlin State Monuments Office, opened. Various experts and committed personalities take part in the discussion:

  • Andreas Barz, Geschäftsführer des Internationalen Begegnungszentrums IBZ Berlin
  • Katja Baumeister-Frenzel, Vorsitzende des Parkhauses Lietzensee e.V.
  • Bettina Gries, Leiterin des Schoeler Schlösschen
  • Dr. Frauke Tietze, Leiterin der Denkmal-AG am Goethe Gymnasium Wilmersdorf

The central topic will be the importance of monument protection and its influence on the everyday lives of people in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district. Admission to the exhibition and the discussion is free.

The event and the exhibition offer an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and information about the relevance of monument preservation and the preservation of cultural heritage in Berlin.
