Title: Berlin outdoor pools draw mixed record of the summer season

The summer season in the Berlin outdoor pools has so far been mixed, as the spokesman for the Berlin Bäder-Bäder, Matthias Oloew, announced. In particular, the bathrooms came into focus due to escalating situations and the resulting tightened security measures. The debates and the changeable weather conditions have led to fewer visitors. The swimming pools in particular are currently using outdoor pool fans and regular guests.

Exact information about the number of visitors has not yet been given because there will be a balance sheet at the end of the season. Compared to the previous year, however, fewer visitors were allowed due to the corona pandemic, there were significantly more guests. In 2022 a total of 1.7 million visitors were counted.

The day of the season with the most visited day of this season was July 9th. On this day, around 73,000 people flocked to the outdoor pools. The Wannsee lido and the Kreuzberg summer pool, also known as Prinzenbad, were particularly popular with around 9500 guests.

In this context, the Columbiabad was mentioned in Neukölln. On a hot summer day, the bathroom had to be closed early after the wrangling and the renitly behavior of visitors had occurred. The bathroom remained closed for a week due to lack of staff. This incident reinforced the public discussion about security in Berlin's outdoor pools.

In order to increase security, an obligation to identify in Berlin has been introduced since July 15. Video cameras were also installed in Columbiabad, which is a novelty in Berlin. The police strengthen their presence, including through mobile guards. Further security measures are currently being planned and are implemented in consultation with the Berlin police and the Senate Administration.

Among other things,

also discusses a possible video surveillance in the Prinzenbad in Kreuzberg. Such a measure has not yet been considered for the summer pool Pankow, in which brawls also occurred last year.

Another incident that recently became known occurred on July 1. The personal details were admitted by four participants who are said to have tried to intimidate guests with a migration background at the Pankow summer pool. These people were found with clothing from the right -wing extremist youth organization "National Revolutionary Youth" of the small party "The Third Way".

The Berlin outdoor pools thus draw a mixed record of the summer season. The debates about security measures and the changeable weather have led to fewer visitors, while regular guests and outdoor pool fans continue to use the bathrooms. In order to increase security, measures such as the obligation to identify and video surveillance were introduced. Further steps are planned in consultation with the police and the Senate Administration.
