Container village plans for university property in Dahlem cause arguments

The fallow uni-lying uni-lying uni-ray 63 in Berlin-Dahlem is to be converted into a container village for 260 refugees according to the Senate plans. However, this decision is due to strong resistance in the Free University (FU), since the university actually wants to build a building for education and research there. The FU Chancellor vehemently rejected the restriction for the accommodation of refugees on this site, emphasizing that the area was not suitable for these purposes.

The President of the University, Günter Ziegler, criticized the Senate's approach, since the university management was not included in the decision and only learned from the media from the plans. However, the FU has provided short -term support in the accommodation of refugees in the past, but also emphasized the urgent need to use the site for its own construction projects. Alternative vacant buildings nearby were proposed as a possible alternative solution.

The special representative for refugee questions at the Senate, Albrecht Broemme, defended the planned use of the Uniigelände for refugees and emphasized the need to provide suitable space. Despite criticism and resistance, other container villages in Berlin are planned to counter the tense housing market for refugees. The discussion about the use of public space for the accommodation of refugees reflects a controversial topic that continues to focus on urban planning and public interest.
