This week a moving chapter of the history of Charlottenburg is celebrated! On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the death of Pastor Johann Christian Gottfried Dressel, a true pioneer of his time, two fascinating events take place that bring local history to life!

Dressel, who served as pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran parish from 1778 until his death on October 16, 1824, left a lasting legacy in the city. He reformed the school system, introduced modern teaching methods and founded the first hospital for the needy - a truly legendary indoor master in the service of the people!

On Friday, November 1, 2024, at 6 p.m. , a lecture will take place in the Administrative Information Center (VIZ) of the Charlottenburg City Hall, Otto-Suhr-Allee 100, which results in the depths of Dressel's commitment to the urban poor care. Historian and museum expert Birgit Jochens gives a captivating insight into the life of this remarkable man and, among other things, highlights his decisive contribution to the construction of the first poor hospital. It continues on Sunday, November 3, at 12 p.m. , in the Luisenkirche on Gierkeplatz.
