BVG buses conquer Charlottenburg's new bicycle strips!

Neue Kantstraße, 14057 Berlin, Deutschland - in Berlin, the traffic situation in various districts has changed a lot recently. A current example is the new bicycle strip on the new Kantstraße in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, which can now also be used by buses. This decision was raised on Tuesday by new markings and concerns the section between Messedamm and Kaiser-Friedrich-Straße, as rbb24

In some cases, the BVG buses will be able to drive past traffic jams at walking speed. Cyclists can continue to use the trail, but there are concerns about security. The Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district was not informed about this measure and found that there is currently no tense traffic situation on Kantstraße. The measures for the use of the buses on the bicycle strip raise questions about traffic control and security.

safe bike paths in Spandau required

Developmentstadt.de

The General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) Spandau calls for a new route to increase safety for cyclists. A discussed solution in the mobility council is to build a glass bridge, which is supposed to lead bicycle traffic over the listed walls of the old BVG staircase. This bridge would include an approximately three meter wide road with glass walls, while pedestrians can continue to use the stops unhindered. However, financing for the project has not yet been determined.

bicycle park problem at train stations

Another problem affects the safety and availability of bicycle parking spaces in Berlin. The railway has started to carry out bicycles that are not attached to official stands in front of train stations. This measure was implemented on the South Cross, where about two dozen bicycles were provided with cardboard labels that warn of the upcoming distance. Bicycles that are not removed in time could be treated as a “lost property” and removed at the expense of the owner, reports Tagesspiegel .

This situation shows the pressing problems of bicycle parking in Berlin. The ADFC criticizes the chaotic conditions and demands more secure storage systems. Although the construction of two bicycle parking houses was announced in 2015, these have not yet been implemented. There are only around 30,000 bicycle parking spaces in the city, while the goal of the "Radscheid" demands a total of 200,000 new storage options by 2025. The parking spaces at many train stations are currently overcrowded, while safe and poorly located parks are often referred.

The challenges that result from these measures and planning reflect the complex relationship between different transport companies in Berlin. It remains to be seen how the planned measures will affect the safety and coexistence of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
