Bundeswehrverband: Budget agreement jeopardizes security

The recent agreement on the defense budget met with massive criticism at the Bundeswehr Association. The association chairman André Wüstner described the intended increase of 1.2 billion euros as completely inadequate in view of the current threat situation. In a statement in Berlin, he underlined that the Bundeswehr and thus the entire security architecture in Germany would suffer from the lack of investments.

Wüstner pointed out the political instability and the unclear future of the United States as a security guarantee for Europe and described the current security situation as one of the most dangerous since the end of the Cold War. According to Wüstner, the group is shocked and surprised by the undersupply of the defense budget. Despite the commitment of the Federal Chancellor for the importance of security at the Munich Security Conference, no corresponding increase in the funds is provided.

warning of consequences for operational readiness

The Bundeswehr Association calls for urgent improvements in parliament to ensure increasing operating expenses and the necessary capacity structure in the armaments industry. Wüstner emphasized that the special fund of the Bundeswehr is already completely bound and additional investments are urgently necessary to ensure the willingness of the armed forces.

The results of the Bundeswehr's report have shown how far the troop is from the NATO capacity goals. He criticized that the demands for an increase in the defense budget or the reintroduction of conscription have not yet been taken seriously. The leader of the association warned an immediate post -control in parliament in order to prevent the end of the time.
