Federal court lifts the prohibition of the right -wing extremist magazine compact

Stößen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Deutschland - The Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig lifted the ban on the right -wing extremist magazine "Compact" on June 24, 2025. This ban was originally issued in the summer of 2024 by the then Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD). The presiding judge Ingo Kraft emphasized that the decision is based on the principle of freedom of expression and press, even for publications that are classified as constitutional. The court found that the contents of the magazine do not exceed the limit to anti -constitutional enemy and thus fall under the protection of press freedom.

The restoration of the freedom of publication for "Compact" confirms an earlier decision by the court from an urgent procedure in August 2024. The 6th Senate of the Federal Administrative Court is in the first and last instance for lawsuits against club bans. The Federal Ministry of the Interior called "Compact" as the "central mouthpiece of the right -wing extremist scene". Since its foundation in 2010, the magazine has been based in bumps, Saxony-Anhalt after it was previously based in Falkensee, Brandenburg. The edition is currently 40,000 copies, and the online TV channel generates up to 460,000 clicks.

constitutional protection and right -wing extremist content

The "Compact" Magazin GmbH has been the focus of the constitutional protection for a long time. At the end of 2021 it was classified as secured right -wing extremist association. The central question dealt with in the court decision was whether the content of the magazine is actually covered by the press and freedom of expression or whether they spread anti-constitutional and dangerous content. This debate falls into a larger context in which the Internet plays a central role.

As can be seen from a corresponding brochure by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the Internet is a crucial engine for radicalization of right -wing extremists. Platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Telegram are actively used to spread racist, anti -Semitic and democratic propaganda. Telegram in particular is described as a central point of contact for right -wing extremist scenes that help recruit new followers and mobilize sympathizers. The use of subtle manipulation of opinion shows how right -wing extremist content is mixed with socially accepted topics in order to shift the limits of political discourse.

The security authorities, including the BFV, are working intensively to monitor right -wing extremist networks and radicalized individuals. The digital space, show striking incidents such as the attacks by Halle (2019) and Hanau (2020), play an important role in the announcement and implementation of acts of violence. These incidents suggest that the challenge of dealing with right -wing extremist content on the Internet is complex and requires a cooperative exertion of authorities, civil society and internet platforms to counteract the spread of hatred and agitation.
