Liepe, Deutschland - In the Barnim, the bridge over the Oder Havel Canal in Liepe is currently closed. The reason for this measure is the need to completely reject the bridge to ensure the necessary corrosion and rust protection. District director Jörg Matthes explains that the painting work is part of the warranty and that the bridge is planned again on June 27th. In the meantime, however, several problems have been found, including deficits in the opponents, the railing attachment and corrosion protection for painting, which made the immediate measure necessary.
The costs for the entire project amount to ten million euros, with half the financing being borne by the water and shipping management and the state of Brandenburg. After completing the original building, it turned out that the paint was not applied enough. Although the construction company tried to take selective measures to ensure corrosion protection, things remained without the desired success, which led to light gray spots on the bridge. Now a full -scale paint is commissioned, which is carried out at the expense of the construction company, so that the rework will not cost taxpayers.

In order to improve the access to the bridge, especially for cyclists, there will be a new block in the first week of July. During this period, the section between the bridge and Liepe is to be paved. Official director Matthes expresses hope that this will be the last block for the bridge and that future repair measures will be avoided.
A comprehensive analysis of the construction site and maintenance measures clearly shows that effective corrosion protection for steel structures is of crucial importance. As BAST, around 4,200 steel and steel association bridges are registered in the federal highway road network in Germany, whereby the total area of these bridges is over 6 million square meters. Corrosion protection measures based on planning and implementation on DIN standards are essential.
This commitment in corrosion protection is not new, but follows the guidelines that were set up decades ago. A current example is the application of detailed standards such as DIN EN ISO 12944, which defines the standards for corrosion protection through organic coatings. This detailed regulation is intended to ensure that the maintenance intervals are effectively observed and the lifespan of the infrastructures is extended.

As a result, Budimex was able to work at night to minimize the blocking times and to ensure that the project is carried out smoothly, so that the large -scale shipping route from Berlin to Stettin can continue to be served.
