Land is reminiscent of wall construction 62 years ago: Chancellor in Teltow
On August 13, 1961, the construction of the Berlin Wall began. Exactly 62 years later, the state of Brandenburg commemorates this historic event and commemorates the victim of the GDR border regime. Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) will give a speech on Sunday in Teltow and put down a wreath. In this commemoration, the memorial steles on the Teltow Canal will also be reminiscent of the fate of the masonry Peter Mädler and Karl-Heinz Kube. Both were shot in 1963 and in 1966 when attempts to escape on the Teltow Canal. The siblings of Karl-Heinz Kube, who died at the German-German border when the 17-year-old died, will also take part in the event. The commemorative speech is held by Landtag President Ulrike Liedtke.
The construction of the Berlin Wall began on August 13, 1961 and marked the division of Germany. According to the federal government, at least 260 fatalities were counted on the inner German border.
The day before the Wall Memorial Day, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will visit Teltow. There he will speak to the runners of the Berlin Wall Run. It is expected that the Chancellor is enough for the athletes because Teltow is a meal station on the track.
The wall run extends over 100 miles around western Berlin and commemorates the victims of the city's former division. The event begins on Saturday morning and leads along the former border strip. The extremely difficult route extends over around 161 kilometers and has a time limit of 30 hours for individual runners.
