Libraries in Lichtenberg offer extended opening times - more time to learn and discover

The Lichtenberg City Library will be available to your visitors even more frequently from September 8th. Three of the libraries will also be open on Sundays by December 15, 2024. This is the Anton-Saefkow library in Fennpfuhl, the Bodo-Uhse library in Friedrichsfelde and the Egon-Erwin-Kisch-Librothek in Lichtenberg. This gives everyone interested seven days a week the opportunity to browse, learn and discover new things.

The decision to expand the opening times was made due to the positive feedback from last year. In addition to the Sundays, the libraries will even be open on Saturdays until 6 p.m. So both the bookworms and the curious bookworms among you can spend enough time in the libraries.

The district mayor Martin Schaefer (CDU) emphasized the importance of the city libraries as places of learning, information and above all as meeting points for the community. The extended opening times on weekends should offer citizens the opportunity to use the library as a social meeting point, to make new contacts and to use the cultural offer in the district.

In addition to the regular loan and return options, free events and workshops are also offered on weekends. These are aimed at all age groups and include sustainable craft and reading actions, music and writing workshops, mindfulness exercises and yoga for the whole family.

It is important to note that due to the missing library specialist staff on Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. and on Sunday, not all services can be offered. New registrations are not possible during these times. The Anna-Segher's library is excluded from the Sunday opening because the linden center in which it is located is closed on Sundays.

Everyone interested can find out more about the varied program on site. In addition, all program highlights are available online at www.berlin.de/stadtbibliothek-lichtenberg/ weekend.
