Worrying increase: E-scooter accidents in Berlin and Brandenburg have almost doubled

The number of e-scooter accidents in Berlin and Brandenburg is steadily increasing. According to the Statistical Federal Office for Berlin, the number of registered e-scooter accidents has almost doubled in the past two years. In 2022, 768 accidents were recorded with e-scooters, the previous year there were 542 cases. The number of accidents has also doubled in Brandenburg. In 2022 people were injured in 104 e-scooter accidents, in the previous year there were 52 cases.

worrying is that the drivers were alcoholic in 18 percent of accidents and were too fast in 7.2 percent. Young people are particularly often involved in e-scooter accidents. Around 40 percent of the accident victims are younger than 25 years.

The increasing number of e-scooter accidents raises questions about the safety of these electrical vehicles. The question arises whether the traffic rules for e-scooters are adequately known and adhered to. The controls and sanctions in the event of violations of the rules should also be reinforced to ensure security on the streets.

The police in Berlin is already sensitized to the topic and has announced increased controls.
