On January 31, 2026, Berlin experienced a special celebration in the Red City Hall: Setareh Saadat received the certificate of completion of the “Advanced Youth Qualification” from the hands of Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU). Saadat, who has been working as a district mother since 2020, is one of a group of 270 district mothers who support families in integrating into the city.

Education Senator Katharina Günther-Wünsch (CDU) announced that the number of district mothers should be increased to 315 in the next 23 months. This initiative underlines the relevance of district mothers, who often help with letters to the authorities, daycare visits and parent-teacher meetings in schools. During the ceremony, 42 red roses were distributed to the additional training graduates, a gesture that recognizes the importance of their work.

The challenges of integration and cultural diversity

Setareh Saadat, 41 years old and native of Iran, has been living in Berlin for a decade now. Your selection as a district mother is not only a new beginning in your career, but also an opportunity to effectively support families, especially those with young people. In order to expand her skills, she completed special additional training that covers important topics such as puberty, youth violence, school and career choices, and dealing with social media.

In addition to German, Saadat also speaks Persian/Farsi and values ​​the trust she builds when working with families. She works primarily with clients from Afghanistan and emphasizes the challenges that come with living in two cultures. Their goal is to provide comprehensive support and support to these families in difficult life situations.

A look into the future

When asked about her professional future, Saadat expressed her desire for a permanent employment contract. Her contract is currently limited until the end of the year. Education Senator Günther-Wünsch mentioned the secured finances for the program, but there are currently no fixed contracts for the district mothers. Amid these uncertainties, Saadat plans to begin training as an educator specifically for neighborhood mothers, demonstrating her tireless commitment to supporting her clients.

Governing Mayor Kai Wegner described the district mothers as role models and emphasized the importance of their work in the fight against violence and intolerance. This recognition is a valuable recognition of their commitment to society not only for Saadat, but for all district mothers.
