Berlin wants to convert Simon-Dach-Straße into a pedestrian zone: disagreement among residents.

There are conversion plans for the popular Ostkreuz-Kiez in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. The district office plans to convert Simon-Dach-Straße between Boxhagener and Grünberger Straße into a pedestrian zone. The traffic calming is part of the “Xberg project” project, in which motorized traffic is reduced and the street space is to be redistributed. Around 27 pedestrian zones, 28 school zones and 53 one -way streets are to be set up. However, the plans encounter different opinions among the residents.

Some residents support the idea of a pedestrian zone and suggest to use the entire street. They also suggest installing bollards to enable supply transactions. Other residents have expressed concerns and fear a neglect of the road and an increased noise pollution from the wing partying party. The district administration is now planning to obtain the opinions of the citizens in a citizen participation.

Citizen participation in the Ostkreuz-Kiez

As part of the citizen participation, the district collects opinions from citizens, especially affected residents and traders in the Ostkreuz-Kiez this month. There are three appointments on which citizens can express their opinions.
