Berlin is investing in the future: 144 new secure bicycle parking spaces opened!

Berlin, Deutschland - On May 28, 2025, the expansion of the bicycle parking spaces in Berlin was officially celebrated. Traffic senator Ute Bonde and other representatives at the opening at the Hermsdorf S-Bahn station presented a total of 144 new secure bicycle parking spaces. These systems are part of the "Bike+Ride offensive", which is funded not only by Deutsche Bahn, but also by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy.

The opening comprises three new locations: 72 parking spaces are available at the S-Bahn station Hermsdorf, while 24 parking spaces are already in operation at the Adlershof S-Bahnhof. Another facility with 48 parking spaces at S-Bahnhof Lichterfelde Süd will open in autumn. In addition, 151 bicycle boxes were inaugurated at Falkensee station in Brandenburg.

cost -efficient use and funding

The "Parkyourbike" access system is used for these systems. Until September 1, 2025, users can use the service free of charge. The first 24 hours also remain free of charge in the Flex tariff, after which fees of 70 cents per started 24 hours. Time cards are also available: a monthly ticket costs 7.00 euros, and an annual ticket 70.00 euros.

The funding for these initiatives is 70 percent above the local directive of the national climate protection initiative (NKI). Financially weaker municipalities and lignite areas can even receive a grant of up to 85 percent. Applications for these funding can be submitted to Zug gGmbH. Deutsche Bahn also offers support in finding location for new bicycle parking systems.

sustainable mobility and future prospects

Environmental and climate-friendly mobility plays a crucial role in achieving the climate protection goals. The "Bike+Ride offensive" is a significant initiative to support municipalities in the construction of bicycle parking systems. In the first phase, applicants can submit important documents, such as project descriptions and plans. The entire process of the application can take place digitally, including via the Easy-Online platform.

Various options for submission are provided for submissions, including a TAN procedure that enables paperless processing. Postal submissions are also allowed, with all documents to be sent to the train within two weeks.

With the opening of these new bicycle parking spaces, Berlin takes an important step towards sustainable mobility that not only meets the requirements of the citizens, but also actively contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions. Further systems are already being planned to further strengthen the bicycle infrastructure in the capital.
