Bakery trade demands receipt of cash for customers
cash: an indispensable pillar in the bakery trade
Berlin, 22.08.2024 - The Central Association of the German Bakery Hands recently emphasized the results of a Bundesbank dialogue about the future of cash. This dialogue includes numerous civil society organizations and shows the continuing value of cash in today's society.
In a time when cashless payment methods are becoming increasingly important, cash remains a central part of purchasing for many bakeries and their customers. Dr. Friedemann Berg, managing director of the Central Association, emphasizes that cash is not just a payment option, but also offers a form of everyday security. "People can fall back on cash for technical disorders or times in crisis and continue their purchases," explains Berg.
The current themed documents of the Bundesbank, in the development of which the Central Association was involved, show that many consumers still have a request to pay cashless despite the growing offer of electronic payment options. At the same time, there are reports on the closure of bank branches and the increasing difficulties to pay cash. "Small and medium -sized companies in particular face challenges in cash supply," continued Berg. The Central Association has therefore decided that as part of the association "Cash counts! E.V." to act actively to ensure access to cash.
The relevance of this topic increases in our increasingly digitized world. According to Berg, cash is not only a financial instrument, but also plays a crucial role in social participation. "Access to cash is not only important for companies, but also ensures the independence and participation of all customer groups," he explains.
During the discourses, the Bundesbank also emphasized how important it is to keep the importance of cash in consciousness. Dr. Berg emphasizes: "The public discussion is essential to understand the problem." The Central Association urgently demands that the fees for handling cash are legally limited in order to reduce the economic burden for the companies.
Since cash functions as a stabilizing factor even in times of crisis, the bakers see themselves as service providers for the everyday needs of their customers. "We would like to ensure that the tradition of cash numbers will continue to exist in our shops in the future," Berg concludes its explanations.
