The music library in Berlin will experience a rich cultural event on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. The mobile festival new chants from Europe presents a variety of premieres of contemporary vocal music, performed by Christine Simolka, soprano, and René Wohlhauser, Bariton and Pianist, from Basel.

The Duo Simolka-Wohlhauser is known for the interpretation of current contemporary vocal music and regularly goes on tours through Switzerland and major European cities. Their main concern is to give the contemporary vocal music a new impulse and to perform innovative pieces.

The music pieces of the festival come from renowned composers such as René Wohlhauser from Basel, Christian FP Kram from Leipzig, Susanne Stelzenbach and Thomas Leppuhr from Leipzig, Thorsten Gubatz from Münster, Ghenadie Ciobanu from Chişinău, Vlad Răzvan Baciu from IAşi, Roman Vlad from Buean-Claude, Jean-Claude Wolff from Paris and Violeta Dinescu from Bucharest and Oldenburg.

The varied program includes a variety of vocal plants from various styles of contemporary music. From humorous music theater pieces to contemplative compositions to demanding works, the festival offers a wide range of musical and linguistic expression. Staged performances, improvisations, theatrics and electronic elements are also part of the program and ensure unforgettable moments.

Most of the pieces presented during the festival are specially written for the Duo Simolka-Wohlhauser and are presented as premieres. These works arise from the intensive cooperation with composers from different European countries and offer a fascinating insight into the variety of contemporary composing.
