Red alarm level for Berlin: Experts demand radical refugee turnaround!

A day at least 50 new refugees flock to Berlin, many of them from Ukraine. The Berlin city administration is confronted with enormous challenges: there is a lack of accommodations, integration options and often also understanding among the population. According to a current survey in ARD Germany trend, 77 percent of the citizens consider migration to be one of the main problems of our time and require a new refugee policy. In this context, Albrecht Broemme, Berlin's top refugee coordinator, suggests in a wake -up call, which extends ten points, that fundamental changes in the migration system are urgently necessary in order to meet the unbroken rush than Berliner Zeitung reported.

ten-point plan for migration

Broemme calls for a fundamental renovation of the refugee recording system in Germany and Europe. Among other things, his plan provides for a drastic reduction in social benefits, suggesting only providing the bare essentials and instead providing pocket money during the first six months. These measures are intended to reduce incentives for illegal entry. The more difficult location of the refugee recording is underlined, among other things, by the fact that Germany still has not integrated many recognized asylum seekers into the labor market, while the workers in the country are urgently needed, as well as the Statistics about migration

Broemme also advocates stricter controls at the EU external borders and a comprehensive registration of all arrives. A faster asylum procedure should clarify whether protection seekers may apply for asylum. In order for Germany not only to act nationally, there must also be a consensus at European level in order to tackle the challenges in a structured manner. This is all the more urgent, since Berlin spent over 298 million euros last year for the accommodation and care of refugees. Time is forced to adequately react in view of the growing number of refugees and so as not to slide into a crisis again, as Broemme urges.
