Current traffic information A4, A9 and A71: closures and alternatives - Autobahn GmbH

The Autobahn GmbH of the federal government has published a press release with current traffic information for the A4, A9 and A71 motorways. One of the most important information concerns the A4, where renewal work will be carried out between the Walterhausen and Gotha junctions in the direction of Görlitz from June 3, 2024 to August 31, 2024. During this time, traffic on the Aachen directional lane is run in two directions in both directions.

On the A38 there will also be closures. From June 3, 2024 (7:00 a.m.) until June 6, 2024 (5:00 p.m.), the PWC system "Kesselberg" will be blocked in both directions because work is carried out at the parking spaces. The "Goldene Aue" and "Galgenberg" PWC systems are available as an alternative.

In addition, the driveway of the Heringen junction from June 3, 2024 to July 18, 2024 due to drainage work is blocked on the A4 in the direction of Göttingen. Traffic is directed to the Nordhausen-West junction via the U28 requirements.

Also on the A4, this time in the direction of Göttingen, there is a blocking of the load and overtaking lane between the Berga and Nordhausen junctions, which lasts from June 3, 2024 to July 18, 2024. Drainage work is also carried out here and the traffic is guided in one lane via the hard shoulder.

In an update of the press release, it is also informed that the load trail from May 16, 2024 to June 5, 2024 is blocked on the A71 between the Eichelberg tunnel and the Meiningen-Nord junction in the direction of Sangerhausen. The reason for this is the bridge repair. Traffic is guided past the measure.

To present the information clearly, I created a table:

| Autobahn | Route | Type of blocking | Duration of the blocking |
| ———- | ————————— | --—————— | A4 | Walterhausen - Gotha (towards Görlitz) | Full closure for renewal work 03.06.2024 - 31.08.2024 |
| A38 | PWC system "Kesselberg" (both directions) | Full closure for work at parking spaces | 03.06.2024 (7:00 a.m.) - 06.06.2024 (5:00 p.m.) |
| A4 | Heringen (direction of Göttingen) | Locking the driveway for drainage work | 03.06.2024 - 18.07.2024 |
| A4 | Berga - Nordhausen (towards Göttingen) | Sperrung der Last- und Überholspur für Entwässerungsarbeiten | 03.06.2024 - 18.07.2024 |
| A71 | Tunnel Eichelberg-Meiningen-Nord (towards Sangerhausen) | Locking the truck for bridge repair | 16.05.2024 - 05.06.2024 |

These closures are expected to have local effects on traffic. In particular, the blocking of the A4 in the direction of Görlitz between Walterhausen and Gotha will be a challenge for commuters and travelers. It is recommended to consider possible alternative routes or public transport.

Historically, the A4 is one of the most important motorways in Germany and crosses many important cities, including Berlin. It was built under the Nazi regime in the 1930s and was part of the Nazi motorway network that Adolf Hitler advanced as a prestige project.

It is advisable to regularly check traffic information via local radio stations or apps to stay up to date because the closures and construction site conditions can change.
