From 2025: dental health without additional costs - amalgam ban in Germany
A huge change is imminent! From January 1, 2025, the dentist world will be turned upside down! The European Union prohibits the use of dentalamalgam - a long -term filling material in dentistry. But don't panic, because statutory health insurance (GKV) remains strong! Despite the amalgam ban, the right to dental services will be maintained without additional costs. Yes, you heard right!
Behind this remarkable turn are the strong partners GKV top association and the Federal Association of Statutory Dentists (KZBV). In one hand prank, they made sure that all GKV insured persons continue to receive high-quality and modern, amalgam-free tooth fillings-and without paying it! This decision is crucial for the patients in Germany who rely on reliable dental care.
The new rules ignite!
In the new regulation, which was adopted as part of the uniform rating scale (Bema), it is clarified: From now on, the patients should receive high -quality, more innovative filling materials that correspond to the standards of modern dentistry. The treating dentist has the freedom to select the right filling material in agreement with the patient. The patients are also informed, so that they are well informed before they decide.
The deputy chairman of the GKV top association, Stefanie Stoff-Ahnis, clarifies: "From January 1, 2025, there will be no more dental treatments with dentalamalgam in Germany. We have found solutions together with the KZBV that are both economically and practical so that our insured are safe!"
and also Martin Hendges, the CEO of KZBV, sees the new regulation as great progress: "It remains: Our patients can access a high -quality, dental filling therapy that does not provide any financial surprises for them. Self -stated materials will be the norm - and this is a big step into the future of dentistry!"
The future of oral health
Oral health in Germany shows gratifying progress! Thanks to lightning -fast preventive measures such as group prophylaxis in schools and kindergartens, the number of tooth fillings required decreases continuously. And the best thing about it: many dental practices are already opting for amalgam -free materials. The patients learn what health means for their teeth, and this is reflected in less contaminated dentists.
This step towards the future has been launched primarily by the changes in the EU mercury Ordinance. On July 14, 2023, the European Commission presented the proposal, which finally resulted in the new regulation on June 13, 2024. From 2025, dentalamalgam will only be used in exceptional cases if it is absolutely necessary.
