Düsseldorf, a place where telecommunications history is written! On October 21, 2024, 1 & 1 Versatel celebrates its 25th anniversary with a lavish festival. It all started in 1999 when the courage and entrepreneurship of Versatel Telecom International opened the gates to a new, liberalized market. The result? A success story that has washed!

The great changeover of the German telecommunications market had already started 25 years ago, and 1 & 1 Versatel was there from the start to actively help shape digital change. A giant of communication developed out of a small storage company that was sometimes overlooked in Amsterdam heights that shy away from being there to be there!

from the regional to nationwide huge

The roots of the success story lie in the intelligent takeover of former regional providers such as Vew Telnet in Dortmund and Kommel in Flensburg. These clever mergers have catapulted the company into a nationwide fiber optic specialist in no time. But that's not all! The takeover of the Tropolys group, which also included providers in cities such as Wuppertal and Essen, catapulted 1 & 1 versatel on the large stage of the competition.

The takeover of Kielnet was another triumph that earned the supply gaps in Schleswig-Holstein Schloss and the company the title of the leading landline alternative in the rest of northern Germany. And with the Hamburg Cicynetz, the North German dominance was finally cemented! Here was a company at work that was not satisfied with little!

B2B focus and strategic course

In 2012, the ambitious company focused more on the B2B sector, which set the course for a comprehensive expansion. In 2014, 1 & 1 Versatel was fully integrated into the United Internet Group, which opened new dimensions of growth! In-house was immediately recognized that the digitization of the economy went hand in hand with the expansion perfectly developed fiber optic nets.

The decision to develop commercial areas in their own economic proved to be effective: From 2015, 1 & 1 Versatel was not only co-designer but also driving power of digitization in the B2B area. Customers were able to look forward to future -proof telecommunications solutions from a single source!

Since July 1, 2016, the renaming into 1 & 1 Versatel has been the proof of the company's dynamic course. The belonging to the 1 & 1 company group opened the door and gate! For example, 1 & 1 Versatel was not only important on the private customer market, but also as a large customer specialist on the driving force in the company!

and the future? She looks really promising! With the establishment of the first fully virtualized 5G network of Europe, 1 & 1 Versatel is in the front row: As an infrastructure provider, the company connects the 5G antennas throughout Germany. And with a fiber optic transport network of the extra class!
