Cooked two burglars in Berlin - the police strike!
In Berlin, two suspected burglars were arrested on August 21, 2025. An investigative court has issued arrest warrants against a 28-year-old and a 25-year-old who are suspected of participating in several housing burglaries in the city. In the past, the 28-year-old in particular should have been noticed repeatedly through break-ins. The police led information to his whereabouts to Berlin-Charlottenburg, where the emergency services observed him and his accomplices.
The monitoring of the two suspects showed that they had penetrated Kollwitzkiez in Prenzlauer Berg on August 20. There they entered several apartment buildings and carried out preparatory actions for possible burglaries. In particular, adhesive threads were placed as aids to explore the apartments. These methods are not unusual among burglars and apparently served to check the absence of the residents.
Detailing and evidence
The two men arrested around 1:40 a.m. on the night of August 21. After access, they were brought into police custody, and the 28-year-old's apartment was searched at the order of the public prosecutor. During this search, the emergency services found extensive evidence, including burglary tools, several adhesive tubes as well as high -quality jewelry and wristwatches. A wristwatch could even be assigned to a specific burglary of August 11th. Investigators continue the investigation into other possible acts and their interaction in order to obtain a complete picture of the offenses.
These incidents are in the context of a general increase in burglaries in Berlin. According to the police crime statistics (PKS), a total of 78,436 cases of burglaries and attempts at burglary were registered in 2024, which, albeit slightly, is increasing compared to 2023. The year 2024 recorded a clearance rate of only 15.3 percent, which illustrates the challenges of the police.
Fears and prevention
The dark field study of the Federal Criminal Police Office shows that many people in Germany are very concerned about possible burglaries. In 2020, 27.1 percent of the population was very worried about the topic. Crime statistics also show that a large part of the burglaries in 2024, specifically 46.3 percent, get stuck in the test stage. This underlines that many break -ins can be prevented by adequate security precautions and attentive neighbors.
The investigation into the two arrested suspects has not yet been completed. The authorities emphasize the importance of civil courage and preventive measures to prevent burglaries among the population in order to achieve a sustainable decline in the number of cases.
