Zoo Berlin closed: MKS ensures animal exceptional situation!
The Zoo Berlin, a popular destination for families, remains closed due to a breakout of the mouth and claw disease (MKS). This decision was made on the weekend of January 11th and 12th after a buffalo herd in Hönow in Brandenburg. This disease represents a significant threat to many pairs, including giraffes and elephants. Even if the plague is not transferable to humans, there is a risk that visitors will unintentionally interlink the viruses through their clothes into the zoo, which could have fatal consequences for the animals. According to Berlin Live , animal fans have to meet the popular animals, such as the mini-hippo Toni and the Panda-Zwillingen Leni and Lotti, do without.
alternative observation options
The closure makes many small and large animal lovers disappointed. However, there is a special alternative: From the shopping mall Bikini Berlin you can still take a look at the monkeys in the zoo. Visitors can settle in the Monkey Bar or in the Neni restaurant and watch the lively animals without getting too close to their natural habitat. This option is viewed as a temporary solution to protect the animals until the regular opening of the zoo is possible again. However, when this will be the case remains uncertain.
