Zoff for hippo names: Zoo Berlin switches through at hate comments!
In the Berlin Zoo, a small, curious visitor has recently been present: Baby Hippo Toni. The offspring in the hippo enclosure has already conquered the hearts of the guests and enthusiastically explores his new home, including the outer enclosure. The joy of the little racker could not be greater - but not everything is carefree online.
In order to name the young animal properly, the nurses organized a competition in which numerous suggestions were submitted. The name Toni came out, which even has a prominent sponsor: Antonio "Toni" Rüdiger. But this name proposal ensured unexpected controversy. Some users critically commented on the zoo's social media channels and took a breath of displeasure.

The Berlin Zoo ventured on Instagram to give insights into Toni's life. After initial enthusiasm, however, some comments caused concern among those responsible. The reactions to the name Toni were sometimes violent and struck over the strands. The zoo team was forced to intervene and appealed to the users: "Please consider yourself to be treated to others as you want to be treated yourself." A request that is not always observed.
"We understand that frustration can arise with more than 20,000 names in the name of the name if your own favorite has not been chosen," said a spokeswoman for the zoo. Nevertheless, those responsible emphasized that a respectful discussion was important. The exchange of views should not be mixed with insulting statements.
In their statement, the Zoo managers pointed out that it is normal for public calls for name that opinions are expressed. However, the limit of social behavior must remain preserved. The zoo will continue to act against insulting and discriminatory comments and delete them to ensure a pleasant environment for all visitors and online followers.
The emotional reactions to the baby name clarify that the connection between humans and animals is also deeply rooted in social media, and it remains to be hoped that interested users will focus more on the joy of the new zoo animal in the future.
