Wuhlheide bridge: Tram ends-tram will soon go again!
The traffic situation in Berlin-Oberschöneweide is about relaxation. From Thursday, May 30, 2025, trams, emergency services, police and fire brigade should be able to run again under the Wuhlheide Bridge. This announcement brings light into the previously tense conditions that have had to come into force since the bridge was completely blocked. The bridge has been completely closed since Monday last week, with pedestrians and cyclists being affected, which led to significant traffic disruptions.
The difficulties began after regular exams had found increasing cracks over the entire length of the bridge. These shortcomings led to the bridge blocked for all traffic since the end of April. The demolition of the bridge started on Saturday to ensure security for the numerous road users.
resumption of traffic
With the upcoming restoration of the transport connections, the island traffic, which has isolated the trams on the Köpenick side, ends. From Thursday morning, the Berlin transport companies are planning to establish a commuting traffic that will be transferred to regular operation from Saturday. It is also ensured that emergency services can drive in emergencies via a track connection towards Treskowallee and Edisonstrasse. Leading emergency services will open the necessary barriers to protect the traffic routes.
The tram lines had suffered from the restricted connections, which underlined the need for a fast handling. The traffic on the street and rail suffered greatly from the closure, as well as residents had to struggle with the noise emissions of the construction work
noise -intensive night work
As announced by the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment, noisy night work is planned for the coming days. These range from the shredding and separation of reinforced concrete fracture to work on the tram supervision. The work is planned in two periods: from May 26 to May 29 and from June 2 to June 4, from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. During this time, levels of up to 84 dB (A) are to be expected, with short -term top levels of up to 87 dB (a).
residents affected by this noise pollution receive documents for an offer that includes a flat -rate reimbursement of costs for replacement sleeping rooms. Affected buildings are located on the Wuhlheide and in surrounding streets. The corresponding information letters are currently being delivered.
Berlin has a total of around 867 bridges that are in different responsibilities. The bridges are heavily used and shape the cityscape of the capital. Therefore, ensuring your good condition is of great importance, even in order to prevent similar cases in the future. In addition, planned renovations and replacement buildings are required for some of these buildings in the coming years to guarantee traffic safety and to improve the quality of life in the city. An overview of current bridge projects is available on the platforms of the Senate Department.
