The well -known director Wolfgang Becker died on Thursday at the age of 70 after a serious illness. This was communicated by the PR agency Just Publicity on behalf of his family. Becker leaves an important legacy in the German film industry, especially through his works "Life is a construction site" (1997) and the widely celebrated "Good Bye, Lenin!" Wolfgang Becker was born in Hemer, North Rhine-Westphalia in 1954. He started his studies at the Free University of Berlin and continued at the German Film and Television Academy. His final film "Butterflies" (1988) has already been honored with several prizes. In the 1990s he founded the production company X films together with Tom Tykwer, Dani Levy and the producer Stefan Arndt and was one of the founding members of the German Film Academy in 2003, which awards the German Film Award, like Department.
