Hydrogen revolution in Lubmin: Large project for green energy started
A groundbreaking step in the German energy future! PTX development and asset manager KGAL signed an exciting financing agreement in Berlin on September 24, 2024, which will form the heart of the green hydrogen in Germany-the large system in Lubmin, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania!
This is not an ordinary project! With a gigantic electrolysis capacity of over 1 gigawatt (1,050 megawatts) and the ability to generate an incredible 100,000 tons of hydrogen per year, this system will have the potential to supply the entire industry in Germany with green hydrogen and at the same time reduce the harmful CO2 emissions drastically. For comparison: Currently, the entire sustainable electrolysis across Germany is less than 1 gigawatts!
investment in the future
In the first construction phase, an output of 210 MW is implemented. The Lubmin location is strategically excellently chosen because PTX Development GmbH was able to consult the renowned company GP Joule as a project partner - a real pioneer in the hydrogen business since 2012! This partnership promises not only to promote the project quickly, but also successfully.
dr. Alan Cadmus, Managing Director of PTX Development, describes Lubmin as a decisive hub for the hydrogen economy in Germany. "The demand for green hydrogen is growing rapidly," he said. "Our initiative in Lubmin is of central importance for the future of the German and European economy." His colleague Frank D. Masuhr added: "We are proud to work with Kgal and GP Joule to quickly implement this vision into reality."
Thomas Engelmann from Kgal announces that Lubmin, together with the hydrogen kernel, will play a major role in the decarbonization of the German economy. "This is impact investment par excellence," he enthuses and emphasizes the importance of professional partners in the early investment stage.
perfect conditions for hydrogen production
The conditions in Lubmin couldn't be better. Several companies are already working on electrolysis systems on the site of the former nuclear power plant in Greifswald to create the nationwide largest hydrogen hub.
A crucial asset is direct access to the planned German hydrogen kernel network, which is in the immediate vicinity. This flow project from Gascade is expected to open the gates to a comprehensive network of 9,700 km from 2025! Lubmin will not only produce hydrogen, but will also be able to transport it into large parts of Germany.
In addition, there is an excellent connection to the urgently needed green energy via the substation of the transmission system operator 50 Hertz-especially from the offshore wind farms that are directly connected to it. With such a coherent network, Lubmin is ready to take on a pioneering role in the hydrogen revolution!
The PTX Development GmbH, founded in Berlin in 2020, has established itself as an innovator and location developer in the hydrogen market and combines high expertise with years of experience in implementing complex infrastructure projects. At a time when the world longs for sustainable energy solutions, this project in Lubmin could be the key - for the future of energy supply in Germany.
