Election appointments and Berlin marathon: Organizer reacts proactively and moves the event

The decision to put the date of the Berlin marathon in 2025 by a week is good news for everyone. The reason for this shift is that the Bundestag election is expected to take place on the day of the traditional marathon. In order to avoid repeating the chaotic incident of 2021, the organizer SCC Events acted in time.

Although the Berlin marathon takes place on the same route, the shift is a certain curiosity. The runners neither affect the election boards nor the voters on the way to the polling stations. In fact, the runners can cross the route in many places. In addition, most runners are already at home when the polling stations close. Nevertheless, there were significant problems last time in some districts, although the marathon did not take place there.

There were too few ballot papers and ballot papers, and there were confusion in the ballot pens. It would therefore be wrong to assume that the shift in the appointment solves all problems. Nevertheless, she shows that there is problem awareness and we can hope that next time all the requirements for fair and free elections will be met. Of course, the shift also throws a certain shadow on our ability to properly organize elections.

This proactive measure now has to revise athletes, hotels and organizers, which is certainly not an easy task given the dense event calendar. But ultimately it is a necessary step to ensure that the Bundestag election and the Berlin Marathon run smoothly.
