Election results in Thuringia and Saxony: A wake -up call for our democracy

Berlin, September 01, 2024 - The state elections in Thuringia and Saxony have now shown their first noticeable effects that influence not only the political landscapes of these federal states, but also the entire social discussion. The managing director of the TÜV association, Dr. Joachim Bühler, spoke up with a clear and concerned voice to comment on the election results.

"The success of the AfD in these two federal states are alarming," Bühler began. "They signal a concern in our society and raise questions about the stability of our democracy and our social market economy." It becomes really alarming when you look at the economic policy positions that the AfD represents. Bühler emphasizes that these views are not only harmful to the economy, but also guarantee that prosperity suffers. A clear connection is drawn between a euro and EU-anti-EU attitude, xenophobia and the attack on the rule of law principles. Ultimately, Bühler warns, these positions lead to the annihilation of jobs and cause losses in billions.

The challenges of securing skilled workers

The East German federal states, according to Bühler, are largely attractive locations for companies and economic growth. But a crucial obstacle is opposed to this: the lack of qualified specialists. "Entitlement and tolerance now have to form the basis for gaining specialists from home and abroad," explains Bühler. Politics must finally understand that a serious location policy is essential to ensure the necessary investments that everyone can benefit from.

Bühler is urgently needed here. "It is important to regain trust in our politics and democracy. Political solutions are now in demand, and no populist slogans that only achieve short -term effects," continued the managing director. He impressively warns that extremist parties end in a dead end that only leads to negative consequences for society.

The TÜV association, under Bühler’s management, is committed to the political interests of the TÜV test organizations and has set itself the goal of promoting technical and digital security and supporting sustainable practices. This is done through general standards, independent exams and qualified further training. Bühler and his association are involved in a constant exchange with politicians, authorities, media, companies and the general public to ensure the high level of technical security in Germany and to restore trust in the digital achievements.

Overall, the latest developments in Thuringia and Saxony show a complex picture of the challenges that the regional and German institutions face. Dr. Joachim Bühler made it clear that the way into the future must be courageous - with a clear strategy for securing skilled workers and a determined use for democracy and market economy.
