Shortly before Christmas, the ING launched a tempting campaign for new customers: Anyone who opens a new checking account by December 15, 2024 will receive an attractive bonus of 200 euros. Because the consumer advice center warns of deceptively real phishing emails that are sent to the new account holders. In these emails, a supposed “important update” is usually requested, which must be done as soon as possible to avoid restrictions in online banking. The banks and the consumer advice center strongly advise you to carefully check such emails. Features such as missing salutation, dubious senders or spelling mistakes are clear indications of a fake. Those affected should move the e-mail into the spam folder and find out directly about the official bank app or website, whether there is actually such a request.
