From a planned green area to the bank on the roadside: the controversial background of the sale of the villa of Karl Wolffsohn to the Zehlendorf district in 1965

The sale of the villa of the Jewish film and theater pioneer Karl Wolffsohn in 1965 to the Zehlendorf district to this day. According to reports, the district was intended to set up a green area on the bank property of Lake Stölpchensee. But now, 58 years later, a bank on the roadside could be created from this green area. In view of these developments, the FDP calls for a comprehensive processing of the district's decisions at the time, in particular with regard to the role of the then CDU mayor, which did not have a white vest during the time of National Socialism.

The story about the sale of Villa Wolffsohn is still controversial. The exact circumstances and motives as to why the Zehlendorf district acquired the villa are not clearly clarified. Now, however, a new detail appears that rejects the discussion about the sale.

The property at Stölpchensee, on which the Villa Wolffsohn is located, was long intended as a possible location for a green area. But now the district is planning to build a bank on the roadside instead. This decision is incomprehensible to many people.

In this situation, the FDP calls for a historical processing of the district's decisions at that time. In particular, the party is interested in the role of the then CDU mayor, who had no blank past during the Nazi era. There is a suspicion that this mayor was involved in the sale of Villa Wolffsohn and may not have acted in the best interest of the Jewish owner.

The history of Villa Wolffsohn and its sale is an example of the difficult past coping in Germany. After the end of National Socialism, many crimes and injustice were denied, glossed over or ignored in various ways. It is important that the past is processed to learn from it and to ensure that such injustices do not repeat.

The FDP's request for a historical reappraisal of the district decisions is therefore correct and important. It is crucial that all information about the sale of Villa Wolffsohn will come to light and that possible those responsible are held accountable.

The processing of the history of a sale over 50 years ago may seem exaggerated for some. But especially in view of the more burgeoning right -wing extremist tendencies in Germany and current political developments, it is of great importance that we look closely at our past and learn from it.

The history of Villa Wolffsohn brings a dark section of the past to light and shows that even in seemingly insignificant decisions, concrete actions and deeds can lie. It is to be hoped that the FDP's demands will be heard after a historical process and that the truth about the sale of Villa Wolffsohn will finally come to light. This is the only way we can make sure that our story will not be forgotten and we learn from the mistakes of the past.
