Göring-Eckardt: AfD represents a threat to stability
The Vice President of the German Bundestag, Katrin Göring-Eckardt (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), warns that the AfD receives too many votes in the upcoming state elections. It describes the party as a possible danger to democracy and stability in Germany.
Göring-Eckardt emphasizes that around 40 percent of those entitled to vote in Thuringia are still undecided and accessible. It is therefore of great importance that the AfD does not occupy a third of the seats in the state parliament. Because then she would have the opportunity to block important processes, for example in the judiciary.
Göring-Eckardt sees a special problem in the upcoming retirement of over 400 judges and prosecutors in the next few years. If the AfD could decide not to replenish these positions, this would lead to a understaffing and thus a standstill of the dishes. Everything would be exposed to a simple neighborhood dispute to the fight against terrorism. The AfD strives for exactly this destabilization.
Göring-Eckardt also appeals to the other parties to confess to a “fire wall” against the AfD and do not select their positions. She finds particularly worrying that leading members of the Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) alliance also sympathize with this attitude. Göring-Eckardt warns against accepting individual cases and emphasizes that they can influence and destabilize democracy.
The statements of Katrin Göring-Eckardt illustrate the threat, which the AfD represents for the stability and functionality of the democratic system. It is now due to the voters and the other political parties to counter this danger and to protect democracy.
