Delay in the market launch of new CO2-reduced diesel fuels: EN2X raises the alarm
The market launch of new CO2-reduced diesel fuel, which was originally planned for this spring, threatens to be delayed due to a duplication of a draft for the amendment to the 10th Federal Immission Control Ordinance in the Federal Council. This has criticized the EN2X economic association Fuels and Energie and pointed out that this leads to uncertainty among manufacturers, dealers and petrol station operators. The industry is intensively preparing the market launch of additional, low-green diesel fuel, including paraffin XTL diesel and B10 fuel with a higher proportion of biodiesel. These fuels offer the chance to reduce CO2 emissions in the vehicle stock, especially in heavy goods traffic.
In Berlin and the surrounding area, delays are of particular interest in the introduction of new diesel fuel, since the capital has a large fleet and a significant number of petrol stations. Consumers in Berlin could benefit from a faster market launch, as the new types of fuel offer a sustainable way to reduce CO2 emissions.
The state government of Berlin is asked to support the market launch of new diesel fuel and to say goodbye to the 10th BImSchV quickly. Linking with the "Clean Vehicle Procurement Act" is criticized as a potential source of delay, since it is not related to the new diesel fuels. The industry therefore demands that the resolutions are treated separately to avoid delays and to ensure a reliable legal basis and schedule.
The use of alternative fuels is also of great importance in Berlin because the city strives to reduce its CO2 emissions. The expansion of the loading and refueling infrastructure as well as an extended range of alternative fuels are therefore also considered important measures for climate protection in Berlin.
The following table lists some facts about alternative diesel fuel varieties that may be of interest to the Berlin region:
| Fuel variety | Manufacturing procedure | Share of renewable raw materials |
| ——————- | ——————————————————————— |
| XTL diesel (HVO100) | Synthesis or hydrogen procedure | 100% biogenic residues |
| B10 fuel | Biodiesel | 10% up to 100% biodiesel |
The delay in the market launch of new diesel fuel is therefore not only of national, but also of local importance, since it could have a direct impact on CO2 emissions and environmental protection in Berlin.
