In order to take action against the littering of parks, the Berlin districts have announced increased controls this week. The employees of the regulatory offices will be in civil or service clothing and address visitors to violations. The aim of the joint action of all districts is to sensitize visitors to the more careful protection of the green areas.

Particular attention is paid to compliance with the leash obligation for dogs. In Mitte, where the James Simon Park and Monbijoupark are often celebrated, a total of 50 employees will go patrol between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. The district has the endeavor to target all green areas of the district as possible.

Anyone who violates the Green Leave Act must expect an advertisement and an administrative offense procedure. However, the employees of the regulatory offices also have the option of asking dog owners and environmental offenders to the cash register on site. Up to 55 euros can be paid in cash and the process is complete on site.

According to the Berlin dog law, dogs in public green areas or parks must be led on a leash at most two meters long. Exceptions only apply to specially marked discount areas. In addition, dog owners are obliged to remove the dog droppings.

Berlin therefore increasingly relies on controls in order to contain the flush of the parks and to raise awareness of a more careful handling of green areas. We can be excited to see how effective this approach is and whether it can contribute to a cleaner cityscape.
