Transport redirection in Berlin-Mitte: New construction site ensures traffic jams and restrictions

In Berlin-Mitte, construction work on the Mühlendamm Bridge begins from Monday, which is one of the most busy bridges in the region. The bridge -wide diversion leads to restrictions for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

The challenge for residents and road users

The busy mill bridge in Berlin-Mitte must be replaced by a new building due to its poor condition. This means that from July 15, the southeastern sub -building of the bridge will be blocked and traffic is diverted over the other half.

For the next few years, road users have to expect restrictions, since all traffic is led over a trail in every direction. The Berlin transport administration recommends by bypass the area to avoid traffic jams and delays.

Improvements on the building

A new milling collar is already planned and should become narrower than the previous building. Residents have spoken out for this change because they appreciate associated improvements. Seat benches, planting and a separation between pedestrians and vehicle traffic are planned, among other things. The new bridge should also offer the opportunity to drive a tram, which enables reducing the car tracks when the traffic figures drop.

schedule and cost

The construction work on the Mühlendamm Bridge is expected to be completed by 2028/2029. The current costs are estimated at around 80 million euros. A challenge is the review of the tram connection via Leipziger Straße to Potsdamer Platz, which must be coordinated with bridge construction.

It remains to be seen how the new construction work affects the traffic situation in Berlin-Mitte and whether the planned improvements will benefit the residents and road users in the long term.
