Im Berliner Bezirk Mitte steht der erste Kiezblock kurz vor seiner Fertigstellung. Ende Juli wird das Straßenamt eine Reihe Poller an der Kreuzung Bellermannstraße und Stettiner Straße in Wedding aufstellen, wie Verkehrsstadträtin Almut Neumann (Grüne) mitteilt. Im August folgt dann die letzte Diagonalsperre an der Kreuzung Grüntalerstraße und Bellermannstraße. In the Bellermannkiez, a total of five such bollards will be created. If necessary, the police, fire brigade and city cleaning can remove them. "With the first neighborhood block in Mitte we brought traffic calm to Bellermannkiez," says city councilor Neumann. "It is now more secure and more pleasant for people who are on foot or by bike."

Overall, the Mitte district plans to set up 12 neighborhood blocks within five years. The CDU and FDP in the district express criticism of this project. The CDU sees this a disability for car traffic, while the FDP has repeatedly noted that the traffic is only shifted to other areas by diversion.
