ver.di demands stability in the Germany ticket: Why a price increase endangers the turnaround

ver.di-media-info: Germany ticket: ver.di calls for price stability-Federal government in duty

With a view to the current suggestions of the traffic light coalition for the Federal Budget 2025 and the ongoing Conference of Transport Ministers, the United Service Union (ver.di) has asked the Federal Government to keep the price of the Germany ticket stable. The price stability of the Germany ticket is of great importance for future viability and planning security in the transport sector.

The current price of 49 euros for the Germany ticket has contributed significantly to the fact that the number of users in public transport has increased again after pandemic. But the traffic sector is still far from reaching its climate goals. The federal government has apparently given up the overdue expansion and modernization pact. It is therefore all the more important to maintain the successful path of an affordable nationwide ticket and not to deviate from it.

The deputy ver.di chairman Christine Behle emphasizes that a price increase of the Germany ticket would lead to the number of passenger numbers. This would continue to destabilize the already burdened public transport, which suffers from the lack of personnel, infrastructure defects and financing difficulties on the part of the municipalities.

ver.di therefore calls on the federal government to keep the price of the Germany ticket stable in order to ensure planning security for municipal transport companies and their employees. Uniform solutions for job tickets, social tickets and children with children are required in order to exploit the full environmental and transport policy potential of the Germany ticket. The public transport can only make a significant contribution to the turn of traffic and to achieve the climate goals through price stability and a wide user base.
