Companies report bankruptcy increase in Germany
The number of company insolvencies in Germany continued to increase in March. According to preliminary information from the Federal Statistical Office, 12.3 percent more companies have reported insolvency in the month than a year earlier. In February, the preliminary increase rate had 18.1 percent, and in January it was 27.6 percent more than a year earlier with 1622 officially registered cases. The creditor's claims estimated the local courts for January 3.5 billion euros after 2.3 billion euros a year earlier, as the Federal Office continued in Wiesbaden on Friday. So there were larger companies on average.
The statisticians pointed out that despite the permanently double-digit increase in the bankruptcy bankruptcy since June 2023, the pre-corona level has only been reached again since June 2023. The number of regular insolvencies between April 2023 and March 2024 corresponded to that of the period in April 2019 to March 2020. The procedures only flow into the statistics after the first decision of the insolvency court. The actual time of the bankruptcy application is often approximately three months before.
Experts expect a further increase in around 20,000 bankruptcies in the current year. Weaked by the Corona years, high energy prices and increased interest rates, more and more companies are in trouble. In addition, exemptions have expired with which the state had tried to avert a bankruptcy wave during the pandemic.
