Uni in Berlin-Dahlem: Container village or research construction?
The property on Thielallee 63 in Berlin-Dahlem, which currently serves as a parking lot, will soon be used for a container village to accommodate 260 refugees. However, the planned measure encounters resistance, especially on the part of the Free University. The university management is indignant that the Senate plans were made without their consent and feels over.
Berlin's refugee coordinator, Albrecht Broemme, emphasizes that the area on the fallow unibles can be used for the accommodation of refugees as long as no new building is being built there. The university chancellor Andrea Güttner was asked to set a time frame for the start of construction of the new building to clarify the Situation.
at the end of March 2023, the Senate decided to build 16 additional container villages. The ruling mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, admitted that it was a challenge to determine these locations and to create the necessary social infrastructure. The new accommodations are necessary because there is a lack of living space for refugees and they should not remain unlimited in emergency shelters such as the former airports Tegel and Tempelhof.
The planned container villages mainly focus on East Berlin, including four in Lichtenberg, three in Pankow and two in Treptow-Köpenick. Criticism and ridicule on the Internet also aim at the Free University, as it is against the temporary accommodation of refugees on the universe area, even though it presents itself as cosmopolitan.
