Uni-development vs. refugee accommodation: Conflict in Berlin
The property on Thielallee 63 in Berlin-Dahlem, which the Senate provides for the establishment of a container village for 260 refugees, encounters resistance, in particular on the part of the Free University. The university plans to build a building for teaching and research and feels over, since the university management has not approved this measure.
FU Berlin is fundamentally ready to support refugee people and has already offered short -term support in accommodation in the past. However, it is pointed out that the area is required for its own construction projects after 2023, since there is a high need for renovation and extensive construction planning.
The Senate decided to build 16 other container villages at the end of March, since the need for living space for refugees in Berlin is still high. The new locations are mainly planned in the eastern part of the city, which leads to an imbalance, since certain districts already take up a large part of the capital -based refugees.
The resistance to the planned container village on the universe area in Steglitz-Zehlendorf has led to ridicule on the net. Some criticize the FU Berlin for the fact that it speaks against the temporary accommodation of refugees, although otherwise it presents itself as cosmopolitan and tolerant. This discrepancy is interpreted by some as crumbs of the "Woke Facade".
