Survey of urban sovereignty: This is how the Berliners want to improve their city!

Berlin, Deutschland - Since June 16, 2025, there has been a comprehensive survey on urban attraction in Berlin. District Mitte and AG ZV 4 was launched. The survey offers all citizens from the age of 16 as well as people who are temporarily in the city, the opportunity to participate.

The main goal of the survey is to sustainably improve the cityscape as part of the Berlin -wide target agreement "Cleanliness & Order". To do this, the participants can bring their opinions and suggestions anonymously and conveniently online by July 31, 2025. If you take part, you also have the chance to win attractive prices, such as tickets for sporting events or an exclusive tour of the Red City Hall.

improvement in quality of life

The survey not only aims to increase cleanliness, but also to improve the general quality of life in the Mitte district. District City Councilor Christopher Schriner (Greens) underlines the importance of feedback in order to evaluate the effectiveness of already implemented measures. Results of the survey should also flow into the evaluation of the target agreement "Cleanliness and order in public space". This initiative complements the "Mitte Mitte Kuss clean" campaign launched in March, which has already made a positive contribution to improving public space.

sustainability in urban development

In the further context of these initiatives, sustainability plays a central role in urban development. The Environmental Federal Agency describes that urban development aims at lively and livable settlements and that social, economic and environmental-protecting requirements have to be brought into harmony with each other. These include, among other things, the land use planning, the urban planning renovation and funding programs to improve living conditions.

With the focus on holistic planning, various dimensions of sustainability are taken into account, including aspects such as traffic, mobility, as well as social and cultural needs. The focus is on promoting affordable housing and the protection of the environment. In addition, sustainable urban development requires that decisions are sustainable and consider the city as a whole.

Finally, the current survey offers a valuable opportunity for the Berliners to actively participate in improving their city. Your opinions could make a decisive contribution to increasing not only the cleanliness, but also the general attitude to life in the middle of the district.
