Overcrowded berquess enforcement hospital: therapy places are missing-criminals released prematurely

The Hospital of the Privacy Increase in Berlin is overcrowded, therapy places for mentally ill criminals are missing. More than a dozen of them had to be released prematurely in 2023. It could be more.

The Situation in the psychiatric hospital of the measure (KMV) in Berlin is alarming. According to Justice Senator Felor Badenberg, 17 criminals had to be released prematurely this year, since no therapy places were available. In addition, 20 other mentally or addicted offenders in organizational custody in normal prisons are waiting for a place in the KMV. If you do not get any space within six months, you will also face early discharge.

The location is so tense that there are hardly any perspectives on free places in the KMV. Justice Senator Badenberg described the situation as "unsatisfactory" and warned of the consequences if the convicts are released prematurely and commit crimes again. The State Secretary of State Ellen Haußdörfer reported great difficulties to organize further places in the enforcement of measures. However, she hopes that additional places can be created by the end of the year.

The overcrowded and understaffed situation of the KMV has already led to controversy, as in the case of the discharge of a clan member due to lack of space for a cocaine withdrawal. This case made headlines because the criminal was considered to be severely criminal and had been sentenced to a long prison sentence.
