Overcrowded trains and exuberant stops: problems on the train connections between Berlin and the Baltic Sea

The train connections between the capital Berlin and the Baltic Sea are very popular with travelers. The railway lines are heavily frequented, especially in the summer months. This always leads to overcrowded trains, especially on weekends. But recently there was an incident that caused outrage. Deutsche Bahn had left planned stops in Berlin and left the passengers on the platform. The "Nordkurier" was the first to report about it.

The official confirmation of the events took place when asked by T-Online. A railway spokesman said that the trains were so busy that for safety reasons there could not be stopped at certain stops. Individual trains of lines RE3 and RE5 were affected in the direction of the Baltic Sea, especially the Berlin-Gesundbrunnen train station.

Several passengers reported chaotic conditions and a lack of information at the Gesundbrunnen station. However, Deutsche Bahn assured that they inform travelers about digital media as well as with advertisements and announcements at the train stations.

In order to meet the increasing demand, Deutsche Bahn is already using additional trains on the affected routes of the RE3 and RE5 on weekends. Nevertheless, these additional features do not seem to be sufficient. From the end of 2026, however, the routes are to be operated with even greater capacity. For the RE3, for example, factory -new cars are planned.

According to the Deutsche Bahn, as many trains are generally used as possible. However, the number of trains available and the available staff influence the capacity of the connections.

The incidents between Berlin and the Baltic Sea clearly show that the train connections on weekends are particularly busy. Deutsche Bahn is aware of this problem and plans to further expand the capacities in the future in order to meet the needs of passengers. Until then, travelers must continue to expect crowded trains and possible restrictions.
