Subway rolls over e-scooter in Berlin-Hellersdorf: train out of service, but no injuries

Berlin (dpa/bb) - An accident occurred in Berlin-Hellersdorf early on Saturday morning in which an e-scooter was run over by a subway. Employees of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) then called the police for help. Fortunately, no people were injured in the incident, but both the e-scooter and the subway line 5 suffered significant damage, which required the train to be taken out of service. The police announced this on Saturday.

The exact circumstances of how the e-scooter came to be in the track bed of the Hellersdorf subway station are now the subject of the investigation. The suspicion of a dangerous intervention in rail traffic is obvious. We are currently investigating who is responsible for the incident and how the dangerous situation could have arisen.

The use of e-scooters in cities has become increasingly popular in recent years. Electrically powered scooters enable people to get around quickly and in an environmentally friendly way. However, problems associated with the use of e-scooters are repeatedly reported. On the one hand, there are complaints about reckless drivers who do not follow traffic rules.
