Solidarity victory: Karl-Ktker-Straße 7 preserved from repression
The residents in Karl-Ktlen-Straße 7 were successfully preserved from repression by a cooperative acquisition. The building, built in 1907 with 38 tenants, has been faced with the risk of the crumbs of the heir community since autumn 2022, which would have meant a possible displacement of the residents.
The housing cooperative "Am Ostseeplatz" eG was asked by the resident as a possible acquisition and asked to take the negotiations with the ownership community. After intensive negotiations with the community of owners and under the mediation by district councilor Dr. Claudia Leistner was able to reach an agreement. Due to the committed cohesion of the tenants and their early public mobilization, the forced auction was averted at the last minute.
In order to secure the financing, the tenants contributed ten percent of the purchase price for their rental house. With an impressive donation campaign, initiated by the house community, further funds for the acquisition were successful. A challenge for the acquisition was also the financing of the upcoming dissolution of the recovery back and the energetic upgrading of the house, since the house is mostly even heated with coal stoves in addition to gas and oil.
with the help of federal funding and primarily through a new funding program of the State of Berlin (socially acceptable energetic modernization), the urgently needed renovation measures can be implemented. At the same time, the apartments are transferred to the country's social binding, which benefits people with low incomes.
"For the rescue of Karl-Gescher 7, the commitment of the tenants: Inside. In these difficult times, the patience of the community of heirs and the solution-oriented support of the Senate Department for Urban Development and Living were decisive for the ultimately successful acquisition," said the cooperative.
"This successful rescue shows that community commitment and solidarity can make a decisive contribution to preventing the loss of affordable living space," said Dr. Leistner.
