Security measures: Felling of trees in the Plänterwald and Kietzer Feld
shocking news for nature lovers! In the week from September 23 to September 27, 2024, several trees have to fall - for a serious reason: traffic safety! The street and green space office has decided that measures must be taken to ensure the safety of all passers-by. A dark chapter for the environment!
It will be particularly critical on September 24, 2024 in Kietzer Feld. Here it is the magnificent linden tree with the tree no. 214/1, which is supposed to give way. With a scope of impressive 177 cm and a proud height of 20 m, this tree not only enriched the skyline, but was also a popular meeting place for birds and insects. But now it's over! Mushroom infestation and considerable family damage not only threaten the life of the tree, but also that of people. The risk of a break is just too big!
a bittersweet farewell to plänterwald
The critical decisions do not end here. On September 25, 2024, another ancient Baum in Plänterwald will fall the ax. The cherry with the tree no. 25/1, the extent of which measures only 65 cm and which grows at a modest height of 7 m, is also felled. There are also serious concerns here. A big loss for biodiversity, because every tree falling has its consequences!
The city administration makes it clear: security is going on! In times when there is always talk of extreme weather conditions and changing climatic requirements, the focus is on such a step in the development of the urban city landscape. The street and green space office must make responsible decisions, even if they sometimes have painful consequences for the environment.
We have to ask ourselves: Which other tree species could be in danger? Will we be facing even more of these restrictive measures in the future? The sad case of these trees is not an isolated case - it shows us how fragile the balance is between humans and nature and that economic and safety -related considerations often come first.
