Senator Franziska Giffey visits economic hotspots in Treptow-Köpenick

On February 14, 2024, the Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Companies, Franziska Giffey, visited the Treptow-Köpenick district. She was welcomed by district mayor Oliver Igel and the head of the business development agency of the Treptow-Köpenick district office, Sven Schmohl. The program included three stations that reflect the economic diversity and dynamics of the district: the technology and start-up center Schöneweide (TGS), DE: Hive Gameshub of the HTW Berlin and the BEU | Behrensufer-with the historic Peter-Behrens building and the great development project of the: AG Schönenweide.

The visit of the Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Companies in Treptow-Köpenick was an important opportunity to present the district's economic diversity and innovative strength. In particular, the stations in the Schöneweide technology and start-up center (TGS) as well as in the DE: Hive Gameshub of the HTW Berlin showed the innovative development of the district in the field of science, economy and culture. A visit to the TGS enabled the senator to get an insight into the future location of Schöneweide. There she was able to visit companies like Vela-Performance GmbH and LGC Genomics, which illustrate the potential of Schöneweid as a laboratory and research location. The DE: Hive Gameshub of the HTW Berlin presented the growing importance of the Games sector and provided insights into the founding funding and start-up culture of the university.

The senator also visited the former AEG, yes WF and later Samsung site, which is converted into a modern district for research, work and culture. There she had a conversation with the board of the DIE.AG about the challenges and opportunities of the district development at the future of Schöneweide. District Mayor Igel emphasized the importance of visiting the district as an attractive, sustainable business location and thanked everyone involved for their commitment.
