New elections in the district advisory board: co-determination for Köpenick!

On October 14, 2025, there will be a public election event for the neighborhood advisory board of the “Living Centers and Quarters Baumschulenstrasse – Köpenicker Landstrasse” funding area. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Treptow-Köpenick Adult Education Center, Baumschulenstraße 79-81. The aim is to re-elect the district advisory board, which has been actively supporting the development process in the district since 2023 and represents important local actors, as berlin.de reports.

The neighborhood advisory board acts as an important platform for exchange between residents, social and cultural institutions and the district administration. The members of the advisory board have already been involved in the planning and implementation of important measures, such as traffic studies and open space concepts. The advisory board also decides on the financial support of projects in the regional fund.

Important information about the election

The neighborhood advisory board will consist of up to 15 members who come from different groups: residents, associations, property owners and businesses are represented. Interested people have the opportunity to stand for election, although spontaneous candidacies are also possible on the day of the event. After a round of introductions by those present, the election takes place. The elected advisory board will serve for a period of two years and meet regularly to actively shape developments in the district.

To register for candidacy, interested citizens can send an email to lzq@baume-ecke-koepenicker.de or introduce yourself personally during office hours in the neighborhood office (Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Glanzstraße 2, 12437 Berlin). Dr. Claudia Leistner, district councilor, will also take part in the event. For further information, please contact the neighborhood advisory board team at baume-ecke-koepenicker.de available.

Participation as a key to urban development

Participation plays a central role in sustainable urban development, as the urban development funding website also notes. Citizens are involved in the planning process through participatory methods such as citizen forums, workshops and round tables. These formats promote active participation in the development of living spaces, which is also reflected in the area of neighborhood advisory boards. Citizens have the opportunity to directly contribute their ideas and needs and thus actively influence the design of their environment.

Other Berlin projects, for example the Dragonerareal in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, show how important good governance and continuous communication are. A committee for citizen participation was founded here, which strengthens the participation of civil society. Such principles are essential in order to find effective and sustainable solutions to the challenges of urban development in Treptow-Köpenick.
