Garbage monster in Alt-Treptow: Students sticking trash cans with works of art

On Monday, April 15, 2024, the street and green space office together with six students from the Kiefholz primary school carried out a creative campaign to promote cleanliness in the green area and on the playground on Wildenbruchstrasse in Alt-Treptow. The pupils of the 4th to 6th grade had designed self -designed stickers with garbage monsters, talking animals and beverage cans as part of their project group "Frei Day" to ask the park visitors to keep the public green area clean.

A total of 20 stickers were printed in A3 format and by the children under the guidance of City Councilor Dr. Claudia Leistner attached to the garbage buckets. The children received support from employees in the Green department of the street and green space office as well as their teachers. As a reward for their commitment, there was a surprise bag from the district office.

District Councilor Dr. Claudia Leistner emphasized the importance of the campaign and praised the commitment of the students for cleanliness and sustainability. Each individual could take responsibility for the environment and make a contribution to a clean district through such projects.

The “Frei Day” project of the Kiefholz primary school enables the pupils to deal with topics such as sustainability and environmental protection. Due to the creative design of the garbage can stickers, the children were able to draw attention to the problem of garbage in green areas.

This action is a successful example of civic engagement and environmental awareness at the local level. Such initiatives help to raise awareness of environmental issues and to improve the quality of life in urban green areas.
