Köpenick celebrates Jewish music tradition: concert in Lewandowski on November 10th!
On Sunday, November 10, 2024, a special cultural event takes place in the hall of "Fifteen Fifteen" in Köpenick. The 4th Köpenick Synagogen concert is celebrated under the title "Louis Lewandowski - The Mendelssohn of the Synagogue". This event is a significant expression of Jewish culture and music in our region.
The doors open at 4 p.m., and the concert begins at 5 p.m., which honors the composer Louis Lewandowski. Lewandowski was a formative figure in the interface between traditional synagogal singing and the newer currents of European music. His innovative works bring a new dimension to Jewish sacred music, in particular through its development of a liturgy that was provided with organ accompaniment for the Jewish service.
top -class speakers and excellent music
The highlights of the evening include lectures by Prof. Dr. Andreas Nachama, a rabbi of the Sukkat Schalom synagogue in Berlin, and the Vice President of the German Bundestag, Petra Pau. Berlin's mayor Stefan Evers also announced his coming. These speeches are not only an honor for Lewandowski's work, but also a memory of the Köpenick Synagogue, which was the center of the Jewish community here from 1910 to 1938.
The historical importance of the Köpenick synagogue, which was designed by the architect Adolf Sommerfeld, remains a strong starting point for this event. After the destruction in the Reichspogromnacht and the damage in World War II, the building was finally torn down after the war. This concert offers the opportunity to continue cultural and historical memory work in our community.
Musically, the evening is designed by soloists of the synagogal ensemble Berlin, accompanied by Jacobus Gladziwa on the organ and the Köpenicker Duo Tobias Unterberg and Anna B. under the artistic direction of Regina Yantian. Admission is free of charge, but a name is required. Interested parties can register on the website tkt-berlin.de or in the tourist information Alt-Köpenick 31.
The district office would like to thank "Freiheit fifteen", the Louis Lewandowski Festival and all supporters who make it possible to have this important event takes place again this year. Visit this inspiring concert and experience the connection of history, culture and music up close.
