Autumn plantings in Treptow-Köpenick: Trees for a better climate
Attention, Treptow-Köpenick! Here comes fresh green for our city! As part of the highly expected city tree campaign, the planting machines roll up this autumn and set strong signals for a livable environment. The first plants will soon be stuck in the ground and beautify the streets. 79 new trees are waiting for their big appearance in Rahnsdorf, followed by 76 in the immediate vicinity of the B96, which will grow further and further into the city from the Adlershof S-Bahn station. And Altglienicke can also be happy - 61 new trees will worry more!
In these exciting times, when we are increasingly facing the challenges of climate change, street trees are more than just pretty decoration! They are the heroes of everyday life that donate to us shadows on hot days, clean the air and save CO2 at the same time. These impressive plants are habitats for countless animal species and play a crucial role in the ecological balance.
growth for a better future
Dr. Claudia Leistner, the district councilor for urban development, street and green spaces as well as environmental and nature conservation, gives us a look behind the scenes: "The city tree campaign is a crucial step to stabilize our district climate and make livable. Not only prevent street trees, but also actively help to reduce biodiversity."
But that's not all! With every single new planting we plant hope for a greener and healthier future! In view of extreme weather conditions and the growing threat from pests, it is absolutely necessary to rely on climate -like tree species. These new tree species are specially designed to adapt to the changed climatic conditions - a real rescue for our urban forests!
challenges and the future of the city trees
Despite these exciting reproductions, we also have to recognize the sad reality: the loss of trees due to felling remains a hard truth, be it due to age, illness or construction projects. The district office does everything possible to catch the losses and to keep the tree wealth in Treptow-Köpenick and to expand at the same time.
Every tree planted is a step in the right direction - for the climate, the citizens and biodiversity! These measures are a significant contribution to adapting to the increasingly serious climatic possibilities and show that we are fighting together for a greener city. So, let's go!
